Volunteers are an integral component of The Denise
House. Thanks to their resourcefulness, creativity and dedication our
areas of service have benefited greatly over the years.
Volunteers assist the shelter in the following ways:
Friendship/Support to women - someone they can talk to about their
feelings
Friendship/Support to children - time spent with children one on one or
in a group. Organizing play activities, listen, read, arts and
crafts, baking, outings and sometimes babysitting
Administrative Support - assisting with reception and office related
tasks
Special Events/Seasonal Events - In the shelter for all women and/or
children
House
Maintenance/Cleaning - small repairs around the house, painting, etc.
Cooking/Pantries
Public Education - display tables and fundraising events
Board
of Directors/Committee Work
Donation Centre - to work with other volunteers, receiving, sorting and
displaying community donations
Their positive attitudes and warm energy helps to create a very
supportive environment for The Denise House residents, past and present.
We have many programs running in the community thanks to the energy and
creativity of volunteers.
We also regard the community of The Region of Durham as part of our
volunteer team. The generosity and support displayed is humbling. We
receive donations of handmade items, personal products, gifts for
Christmas, financial gifts, special shelter needs, new and gently used
items.
Each donation goes a long way to ensure the comfort and support for
the women and children who reside at the shelter.
We thank all Volunteers and Community Supporters for their
commitment, time and energy. Their support allows us to realize present
and future goals for The Denise House.
