Emergency Shelter for Abused Women and Their Children

Are You being abused?

Abuse occurs in many forms. If you answer yes to any of the following questions, you are being abused.

  • Are you afraid for yourself and your children?

  • Are you being physically assaulted or emotionally abused by the partner with whom you are involved?

  • Does he/she constantly put you down, harass, slap, poke, hit, punch, or beat you?

  • Are you intimidated or threatened with beatings if you leave?

Women Abuse: the silent crime

The first thing you should know is that you are not alone. 1 out of every 10 women in Canada is abused by their mate. Women abuse is a criminal offence. Living with it is physically and emotionally dangerous for both you and your children. Chances are a child from an abusive environment will grow up to be abusive or tolerate abuse.

Understand that you cannot control the beating. No extent of reasoning will stop them. You are not at fault and you do not deserve to be treated in such a manner. Statistics will tell you that the first beating is never the last.
