Emergency Shelter for Abused Women and Their Children

There are a variety of resources available to the community in regards to abuse. Below are a collection of links to various resources, some offered by us and others offered by other organizations.
Facts About Abuse

  • One out of four Canadian women are being assaulted. (This is considered a conservative estimate.)
  • Wife assault/woman abuse is rarely a one time occurrence. A London study showed that the majority of women had been beaten an average of 30 to 35 times before calling the police.
  • Pregnant women and women with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to assault.
  • One-half of all Canadian women have experienced at least one incident of violence since the age of 16.
  • Almost one-half of women reported violence by men known to them and one-quarter reported violence by a stranger.
  • Six in ten Canadian women who walk alone in their own area after dark feel "very" or "somewhat" worried doing so.
  • Women with violent fathers-in-law are at three times the risk of assault by their partners than are women with non-violent fathers-in-law.
  • Re-offence rate is lower when police make arrests.
